Once in a lifetime Trip: Kite Sisters Camp Morocco

An adventure to a place that will blow up your mind, for real.

Every year, since 2012, we go back to Essaouira for the Kite Sisters summer Camps in the African lands. This 2019 will be our 8th year and we are so ready to enjoy a week of learning, progression, excursions, ocean, surf, camels, traditions and new adventures with our Sisters. This is what Essaouira has to offer and what you will experience during our Camp this June 2019. Open to all levels of Kiteboarding (full beginners to advance), there are no limitations to jump into this adventure!

Another kind of trip

When we start planning a new kiteboarding trip, we generally tend to decide between 2 options: going to that place where you just stay in front of the spot, check conditions from your window and just kite… It sounds like a blast! But you also have that other trip, the one that you know that there is so much more, that give you that feeling between excitement and fear… to the new, to the unknown, to the different. The one that you know, beside the kiting part, that you are booking a truly adventure… and that´s the kind of trip that we are talking about here.

Movie time

The very first day of our Kite Sisters Camp in Morocco (and as in every Camp), we kick off the week with a traditional “Welcome” ceremony. In Morocco I always have the same “kick off” phrase, because I even repeat it to myself every time I arrive to these beautiful lands: “You are in Morocco, put the black and white filter and surrender to the adventure… You are about to take part of a movie”.

Africa´s Windy City

Essaouira offers miles of long, sandy and golden beaches, along the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, that receive every summer the strong and dependable winds, strengthened by thermal effects, delivering 20+ knots daily. Accompanied by reduced swell and, therefore, smaller waves, makes it a really safe spot to learn kiteboarding, push yourself to the next step and transform you into a better, safe and more experienced rider.

Sounds like ideal, right? But what about the crowds? Check the photos over these lines and the one below this paragraph… N-O-C-R-O-W-D-S 🙂 We enjoy every year of an almost private and uncrowded spot… Only accessible by 4 x 4 cars, these beaches keep the crowds far and the wind just for us. Located downwind from famous Essaouira Bay, we kite with clean wind on a 4 km long and up to 400 meters wide sandy beaches where wind blows side on-shore… But you can still see the old Medina on the back; this way, you won´t forget that you are actually in Kiting in Morocco!

The painter´s heaven

Together with the kiting part, we said that this is the kind of kitesurf trip that gives you so much more: as it´s pronounced in Arabic, es-Sweera means “little picture” and it’s a real painter’s dream location, with a vibrant blue-and-white “medina” (inner walled city), enclosed by fairy-tale, sand-coloured ramparts and imposing stone gates (“Babs”).  This UNESCO World Heritage listed city is a truly adventure itself into ancients and rich traditions… and fantastic shopping!

The Argan Oil female Cooperatives

The Souss Plain in South West Morocco is the only region in the world where Argan trees grow. One of the activities during our Camp is visiting a female argan oil cooperative of the area, producer of this rich oil and it´s derivative products. Rich in vitamins C and E it’s an excellent natural moisturiser for skin and hair and has also been used for culinary purposes in Morocco for generations. But the benefits of this organic oil are more than just skin deep – production is creating a positive impact and empowering the women in this small region of South West Morocco: run by women, these female cooperatives gives a second opportunity to single mothers, widows and heads of families to have a livelihood.

No wind… No problem

We know that wind depends of many nature factors, so it´s always good to have a plan B, when you are traveling with a group of active, likeminded and fun women… Right? Surfing, surfing, surfing... For that day when wind doesn´t join us, Essaouira will always have something to offer to those energetic ladies: You will be able to cross one more line in your “Life To Do´s list”: Surf Morocco 🙂
